How to Use This Calculator
- Choose a mode: Number → Notation or Notation → Number.
- For Number → Notation: enter any number (e.g., 35000 or 0.0042).
- For Notation → Number: enter the coefficient (e.g., 3.5) and exponent (e.g., 4).
- The result updates automatically as you type.
The Formula
Scientific notation: N = c × 10ⁿ, where 1 ≤ |c| < 10 and n is an integer. To convert: move the decimal point until one non-zero digit is to its left. The number of places moved becomes the exponent (positive for large numbers, negative for small).Frequently Asked Questions
Scientific notation expresses numbers as a coefficient between 1 and 10 multiplied by a power of 10. It makes very large numbers (like 299,792,458) and very small numbers (like 0.000000001) easier to read and work with.
